Google Adwords

Adwords is a great short-term strategy for bringing your website traffic, however it should be used as a tool to define what your more cost-effective SEO strategy will be in the long-run.  We use Adwords to find the search phrases (keywords) that generate you the most revenue, then we design an SEO campaign for these keywords.  As we reach the top 3 results in SEO, we scale back (or eliminate) our Adwords campaign for that keyword.

In our opinion, Adwords is one of the greatest tools for testing the success of search phrases with a minimal budget and in a short period of time.

Here is what this service includes:

  • Researching and selecting search phrases to target.
  • Setting up the Adwords campaign and your budget.
  • Integrating analytics to measure effectiveness and sales from Adwords.
  • Ongoing monitoring to ensure we are only spending money on words that are working and getting rid of any that don’t.
  • Monthly reports to let you know where your campaign stands.

A Little About Adwords

What it isThis is where Adwords appear.
Adwords are the paid ads that you see appear in search engines.  Well, technically “Adwords” is what Google calls it, the generic term is “Pay Per Click” advertising or PPC.  Microsoft and Yahoo call it something else, but Adwords is akin to “Kleenex”, it’s what everyone calls it.

What it is for
It is a great tool to pay for getting traffic to your website.  You only pay when someone clicks on your ad and goes to your website, so there is no wasted ad spend.

Why it’s awesome
If you want to test out search terms to see if they will send leads that turn into customers, this is the quickest way to do it.

What’s the catch?
Metrics are vital to success.  You have to measure what words convert customers and be able to compare your ad spend with your revenue to measure profitability.

The Numbers say
Only Google knows for sure, but all studies done show that Organic results receive roughly 75% of all clicks and that Adwords (paid ads) receive roughly 25%. These numbers are a bit dated now that Google (and Bing/Yahoo) have blended their search results to include local listings, maps, social results, images & video, but it is safe to assume that organic results still far outperform the paid results. This simply means that Adwords is a great short-term strategy, but that it should set the direction for a long term SEO strategy.
