Hello and happy June! As always, the digital world does not sleep. Some highlights this week include Facebook’s removal of trending news, Google Local Posts may be getting more attention, and AdWords notes released.
Are Yelp results better than Google’s? If you ask them, why yes, yes they are. Yelp has been pushing for regulation as to Local Search results that favor Googles. However, if they do get this type of regulations enacted, will it do more harm than good for Yelp? Mike Blumenthal has a breakdown of the potential pitfall this could cause for the review giant.
Currently still in testing, but there have been a few reports of a new grid view of past posts from Google My Business pages.
Is Google’s new algorithm summarizing your content in search results?
Google revealed that they can collect data from a variety of sources and merge that content together to create a new compressive answer to a search query. Where will this go? We are not sure yet. See Search Engine Journals’ post for more details.
Just as you can add notes to your Google Analytics data, you can now add notes to your Google AdWords campaigns. You can create account, campaign, and group-level notes.
Facebook announced last week that it will be removing the “trending news” section from its feed page.
Their statement from Friday’s announcement explained further:
“We introduced Trending in 2014 as a way to help people discover news topics that were popular across the Facebook community. However, it was only available in five countries and accounted for less than 1.5 percent of clicks to news publishers on average. From research, we found that over time people found the product to be less and less useful. We will remove Trending from Facebook next week and we will also remove products and third-party partner integrations that rely on the Trends API.”
